Dr. Berg was my electronic circuits instructor and academic advisor at UTB from 2000 to 2004. His lectures were always engaging, and he showed interest in our learning. From him, I also learned the importance of fact-based decision making. This is an invaluable skill, applicable in any walk of life.

Few people make such a strong impact in our lives as our teachers do. I have been fortunate to cross paths with three extraordinary teachers through my life. The first one was Ms. Teresa, my math teacher in a small Mexican town. The second one was a ROTC instructor, First Sergeant Posada from Pace High School. The third one was Dr. Berg from the Engineering Technology Department at UTB. They all had one thing in common; they wanted to help their students become a better version of themselves.

During my student years at UTB, Dr. Berg taught introductory to advanced level classes. He was my professor in at least five of the courses I took while working toward my degree. I remember him as a humble, knowledgeable professor with a great sense of humor but also as someone who really cared for his students.

One of the qualities of Dr. Berg I admire the most was his ability to identify those students who were in academic disadvantage and work with them to bring them up to speed with the rest of the class. Then he would help the class learn and work together as a team. I also remember him as someone who would listen to his students needs and was willing to change classroom dynamics in order to help everyone learn.

The combination of these attributes made Dr. Berg an excellent professor. His dedication to this profession had a profound influence in many of his students. These same qualities implemented in the public service can generate a significant change in the community. I firmly believe that Dr. Berg’s genuine interest for the common good, his empathy and his vision to identify issues and solve them in a quick and effective manner will make him an exceptional commissioner.

I support Dr. Berg for Port Commissioner Place 5.

Dr. Berg was an engineering professor and advisor to me during my undergraduate years at UT Brownsville. Under his guidance and direction, I landed an opportunity to shoot straight for a doctorate degree in 2010. Many doors opened for me due to this experience, including working at world-class companies like Intel and SpaceX. Today, I am a Senior Scientist at an engineering consulting firm specializing in electromagnetic survivability for the aerospace, automotive, and defense industries.

Dr. Berg has always been a vocal proponent for the city of Brownsville. I can remember 10+ years ago, sitting in his class, and being convinced of the strengths and potential that Brownsville has. Dr. Berg has strong engineering chops and experience as a technical leader. I fully endorse his campaign for Port Commissioner Place 5.
